AMERICAN SIGN MUSEUM
25th Anniversary Commemorative Book
Hello, Ioanna.
This is Phil Armstrong answering the RFP to contribute to the photography portion of ASM’s upcoming 25th anniversary commemorative book.
Over the last decade, I’ve worked on projects for local and national museums. From the Cincinnati Art Museum to the Smithsonian itself, I’ve photographed events, exhibits, and everything in between that touch upon various subjects, capturing images featured in marketing materials, books, and permanent exhibitions. I’m a lifelong Cincinnatian and someone who genuinely cares for and supports its arts community; any work that showcases the beauty and brilliance of Cincinnati’s finest institutions, such as ASM, is up my alley.
As a fan of the American Sign Museum and having photographed events and materials within it for other clients, I was eager to answer this proposal when I learned there was a chance to work with ASM directly on the upcoming book. This would be a tremendous opportunity to forge a working relationship with you and the rest of the ASM staff while creating something lasting and meaningful.
Below is a portfolio selection of museums I’ve worked with on projects over the years. While half of my museum work is event-focused, I am no stranger to capturing exhibits and works in detail on their own.
A summary of details concerning timeline, deliverables, fees, and more follow the portfolio of work.
Thank you for considering me for this project. I hope to work on this with the museum.
Timeline & Deliverables
I work with all of my clients to understand and respect their deadlines. If finished photos are needed within a week of the shoot, I will ensure we meet that deadline so long as I’m made aware before the shoot. If there’s no rush on photos, I will still make sure I get them back to the client in a timely fashion.
Finished photos are delivered via a digital download link. The files will be in their highest resolution in JPG format. If a different delivery method is desired, I’m open to discussing what’s best for the writer.
The museum is entitled to four rounds of revisions per image. I am happy to accept notes via email, over web conferencing, or in person should it be required.
For every additional revision beyond the fourth, a $25 fee will be added to the cost of that image.
I am willing to work on this for as long as it is required to finish the book.
Scheduling
I request that all sessions throughout the duration of the time spent working on images for this book be scheduled no less than 7 days beforehand. As I am a freelance photographer, my schedule can become booked quickly. The longer the lead time on a session, the better.
Equipment
Two Nikon mirrorless digital cameras will be used as primary imaging tools. Speedlights, backdrops, tripods, and various other materials that may be required for photographs will be provided. I do not envision needing to purchase anything in order to make the necessary images ASM needs for this book.
However, should any piece of equipment be necessary that I do not already have, I can acquire the equipment specifically for this project. If the price is such that it will be cost prohibitive for me personally, I would like to reserve the right to discuss splitting the cost of the required equipment with the museum.
Rate & Payment
I am willing to work on this project for $30 an image, with a minimum commitment of $2400 total for my time, experience, and expertise (equivalent of 80 images). This includes all post-processing, the four rounds of revisions if necessary, and final high-resolution JPG image files.
ask for $1000 of the total price be paid before work begins. When the total amount is determined at the end of the project, I will invoice for the remainder. The invoice should be paid within 60 days of invoice date.
I accept check and direct deposit.
